What is the WISE NL Indigenous Youth Gathering?

The Indigenous Youth Gathering (IYG) is designed for high school students who self-identify as Indigenous and are interested in exploring career pathways in science and engineering. Through engaging, hands-on activities, speakers, and exposure to the wide range of possibilities in these fields, students are encouraged to envision themselves in STEM careers. Participants are empowered to bring this knowledge back to their schools and home communities, sharing opportunities and inspiring their peers.

Who can apply for the WISE NL Indigenous Youth Gathering?

Full-time high school students in Grades 10, 11, and 12 are invited to apply with a team of 2-4 delegates from their school. Preference will be given to students who self-identify as Indigenous; however, all students are encouraged to apply.

Where will the WISE NL Indigenous Youth Gathering be held, and what is the cost?

The Gathering is held every 2 years, with the location cycling between the Memorial University campuses in Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2026, IYG will be held in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. It is free to participate in the conference itself. Travel and accommodation support will be available to groups based on availability. Participants may choose to bring personal spending money.
