IYG 2024 – What, When, How

When and where is the next event?

  • October 17-20, 2024
  • MUN Grenfell Campus

What will be happening?

  • The Indigenous Youth Gathering (IYG) is for grade 11 and 12 high school students in Newfoundland and Labrador who self-identify as Indigenous and their friends (all genders) who are interested in learning more about education and career options in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
  • Features speakers, panels, tours and fun, hands-on workshops with professionals in various areas of STEM. Most speakers and panelists are Indigenous.

How can I participate?

  • There is no fee to participate in the conference.
  • Transport, accommodation and meal support is provided for students and chaperones travelling to the Gathering.
  • Groups and/or schools are encouraged to send a Student Delegation of up to 4 students. Each delegation will require a minimum of 2 students and at least 1 parent or teacher chaperone (If a mix of male and female students, both are required to have chaperones as per NLSchools regulations).
  • Be ready to participate and be part of the sessions and tours and get to know other students from the province and professional role models.

IYG 2024 Application

  • *Applications are now extended until September 30th, 2024*
  • A complete application consists of four parts (see below) that can be completed and submitted separately. The downloadable version contains all four parts.
  • Applications received without all the required information are considered incomplete and will not be accepted.

Student Delegations

  • Groups and/or schools are encouraged to send a Student Delegation of up to four student applicants.
  • With the online form, the names of the student delegates are specified in “Part 4: Chaperone & Delegation Section”. Each student must complete all four parts.
  • Teachers travelling with a delegation of four students are eligible for substitute time compensation.

Online Application

After completing the form in each section, the “Submit” button will transmit the information to the IYG Team for processing, and a copy will be sent to the author for their records. Please note that no information is kept on the website.
